| Chapter 1- The Flight | Chapter 1- The Flight “The Wind has whispered hope to those who head at heavens gates.” -Spoken by Anagon, The Ranger Over the grove the raven flew, towering over the heads of men. Searching for something, someone. The bird tucked its wings and dove back into the deep forest, to rest on its master’s hand. “ What news the church send us today Bádor?” said Anagon stroking the beast’s neck. He unrolled the paper attached to the birds claw. Anagon kneeled, bowed, and recited the prayer that was on the scroll. My Lord Above, All I have is all I bring A broken crown of men, I heed today This tattered life, of mine A hollow fate, my broken soul It is indeed a long way home All I Deserve is filthy rags Dirty crumbs and unclean wine I bow to you Lord and Offer my, life, my sins, my service Amen Anagon rose and walked towards the river, whistling joyfully in harmony with the birds of the wood. Anagon once the glorious knight has only the wolves and ravens to keep him company. Yet those who get a glimpse of him still see the joy, and the warmth. He seemed perfectly happy keeping to himself and talking to the Lord. Though he still had his inner grief, the tears, which had stung his face so many years ago, which still felt so real. Now Anagon is a lone ranger, the Grey knight he is called by the few who see him cutting down the evils of the night. ”Be weary of those who hide in the shadows, for they are living with all that’s dead” -Spoken by Ruell, the apprentice “She is here my Lord,” said the servant, startling king Leorraent,” I have her waiting in the hall.” “Thank you, get my coach ready so that me, Sarah, and the lady may go out on a ride this evening.” Said Leorraent. “Will do Sir,” The servant scurried off to make preparations for the evening. Leorraent rose and started his on his way to where the lady Jessica was waiting. The old man felt his age as he tried to hurry down his halls. He slouched, and cringed as he felt the groan in his knees. He turned the corner, finally he reaching his destination. He pulled his stomach in and stood up straight and walked into view. Yet, as soon as he saw the lady his heart became younger, and his burden felt lighter. “Welcome back to the kingdom of Aleall Jessica. It has been a long time since I have seen you and your father. Shall I let you freshen up, and then we may go on a ride into the woods for dinner?” “That would be lovely, thank you I am quite tired from my travels,” Said Jessica looking around, “ It is indeed good to be back.” “Then it will be so, ah yes Kerralian is dying to see you, when you have the chance you should pay her a visit. Now Haameth show this young woman to her chambers” Leorraent smiled and walked out of the room. He immediately felt his age seep back into his bones. He turned away so that the lady could not see his face. He stepped out of view and slowly limped back to his own quarters, his servant following. The Chains that shackled me in my past seem much lighter now that I have lived with them so long. -Spoken by the King of Clolyan Princess Jessica’s Father Lady Jessica was relieved to be in a familiar kingdom again, though she hadn’t been here since she was the age of eight. She was sorrowed by how old the king looked, how shallow his eyes he had looked before he left the room, but still joyful to see her father’s old friend. Her thoughts brightened as she thought of queen Kerralian, and asked Haameth to bring her to he queens chambers. The servant Haameth stepped off to the side as they reached Kerralians room. “Straight ahead my lady, I will wait here for your return.” “Thank you,” said Jessica as she walked towards the door, not appreciating the look in the soldier’s eyes. She knocked quietly and a young girl opened the door a crack. “Yes? Who beckons the queen?” said the girl in a rough tone. “Tell the queen it is Jessica, she will permit me to enter,” replied Jessica in a tone which told the girl she was annoyed. “oh, Oh! Excuse me my lady, come in, come in! The queen has anticipating your arrival. Please forgive me, sit down, here, well anywhere. Do you need anything, anything at all?” the girl’s tone was much sweeter. “ No I don’t need anything, I am perfectly fine. Please tell the queen I am here.” Jessica also lightened her tone. The worried looking girl scurried away into an adjoining room. A small girl near the age of seven walked into the room through a different doorway. She quietly hummed to her self, dancing while looking at her feet. She hadn’t noticed Jessica until she had spun around to face her, just a few inches away. The child stopped her humming stilled. She stood their not moving a muscle; the only thing that looked real about her was her eyes, the green and blue silently dancing fire in her eyes. “Hello, what’s your name?” Jessica said after what seemed like an eternity of silence. The girl’s lips didn’t even quiver, her eyes stared intently into Jessica’s. Time stood still for those moments, which seem so, few. “Bria leave her alone!” Snapped the queen at the small girl. The girl Hurried out of the room, with the servant girl following her. “ Welcome back Jessica, I am so glad to see you,” Some giggling came from the other room and that reminded Jessica of the small girl. “Kerralian who was that small girl in here a second ago?” Jessica asked. The old queen smiled warmly, “ It’s just one of my nieces, her mother is out traveling so I am getting to borrow her. I wish that me and Leorraent could have had a child, but it wasn’t God’s will.” “Yes,” said Jessica, “There has been talk about who will take the throne when its time for you and Leorraent to ‘retire’ from your duties.” Kerralian let out a loud cracked laugh, “ We may be old but neither of us plan on dying any time soon. Leorraent knows who his successor will be, but only him and the Archbishop. I have been trying to drag it out of him, but he will hear nothing of it. Whoever it is, it must be someone good he wouldn’t pick anyone who was not pure.” Kerralian smiled once again. The two women talked about their lives. What has happened, and what is too come. Until the call for dinner came. “There are happenings and things which man cannot understand until God above reveals it to him. Only then you will fully know their meanings.” – Spoken by the Archbishop “Covered by the summer rain While lighting paints the sky The song of the raven a sad goodbye In the time of elves and birds Men lived in peace, my sweet farewell Where are the chiming church bells of my forgotten past? That beckoned men’s souls to heaven’s gates...” Anagon sang quietly while he strummed out chords on his mandolin. The woods stood listened, letting his soft song echo off it’s old enchanted trees into a robin’s ear, which joined him in song. All the creatures of the wood listened to the conjoined song of man and beast. Then as the last chord died on its ringing tune, the forest stood still. |
